Best Breakfast Spots in Crawford County
Earlier in August, we asked you to sound off on your favorite breakfast spots in Crawford County. There’s no better day to feature the “best for breakfast” than today, on National Waffle Day. And the results are:
Winner: Bob’s Grill – 1014 N Broadway St, Pittsburg
Bob’s Grill has been christened “Breakfast Heaven” by loyal customers since the diner’s early days in the 1970s. Today, the same hometown atmosphere and home-cooked food continue to draw customers in for their breakfast meal. One of their most famous breakfast menu items is The Cowboy, your choice of meat mixed with green peppers, onions, egg, and hash browns topped with cheese (smother it with gravy and you have a Pittsburg icon). Breakfast is served until 11 a.m. at Bob’s Grill.
More of Crawford County’s best breakfast spots:
Chatter’s Brunch – 2401 S Rouse St, Pittsburg
On Sunday’s from 8:30-3:30, you don’t want to miss Chatter’s brunch specials. This one-day menu includes 4 varieties of eggs Benedict (sausage, veggie, chorizo, and fried chicken), pancakes (we recommend the Heavenly Pancakes: 2 pancakes + sliced bananas, vanilla bean ice cream, and chocolate syrup), and 4 “Live a Little” items you must try.
Harry’s Cafe – 412 N Broadway St, Pittsburg
Their menu says Harry’s is “mother’s only competitor” when it comes to home-cooked meals. The breakfast you’ll find at Harry’s Cafe definitely proves that claim. Ham and cheese omelets, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, and other breakfast staples are not only delicious but affordable. The pecan waffles are another customer favorite. Make sure to pick up a freshly made cinnamon roll as you leave!
Eastside Cafe – 120 S Ozark St, Girard
A staple in Girard for generations, the newly reopened Eastside Cafe is doing breakfast right. Their impressive Eastside Omelet is a three egg omelet with bacon, ham, sausage, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and cheese, served with hash browns and toast. Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., their Breakfast Special – two eggs, sausage, hash browns, silver dollar pancakes, a half biscuit and gravy, and a cup of coffee – is just $5.99.
Piece of Cake Nutrition – 512 N Broadway St, Pittsburg
Locally owned Piece of Cake Nutrition provides a healthy option for breakfast lovers. They specialize in a variety of nutrition shakes. All shakes are low in sugar, sodium, carbs, and fat and high in protein, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, water and antioxidants. Even better, they taste amazing, in flavors such as caramel cafe latte, German chocolate cake, blueberry-cranberry, and key lime pie. This is a breakfast that will keep you moving throughout the day.
Farmhouse Cafe – 4060 Parkview Dr, Frontenac
Frontenac’s Farmhouse Cafe serves a $3.99 breakfast Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. The breakfast menu itself is available all day. The homey cafe, which loves to feed truckers as they pass through the area, serves up hearty skillets, chicken fried steak and hash browns, eggs cooked to your choice, and homemade french toast.
Otto’s Cafe – 711 N Broadway St, Pittsburg
The iconic Otto’s Cafe in downtown Pittsburg has been a local breakfast favorite for over 70 years. Order one of their 4 breakfast specials or “old fashioned” special for a filling, affordable meal first thing in the morning. Otto’s Cafe also serves incredible omelets; we recommend Otto’s “Famous” Omelette and hash browns, but you have to stop in to see why! Pro tip: The biscuits and gravy are phenomenal as well!
Jimmy’s Egg – 3103 N Broadway St, Pittsburg
New to Crawford County, popular breakfast chain Jimmy’s Egg serves breakfast every day from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Breakfast menu offerings include the popular “Garbage Breakfast” (hash-browns topped with grilled onions, bell pepper, and sausage crumbles with two eggs); skillet scrambles; fresh-baked bread, a variety of eggs Benedict; buttermilk, wheat, sweet potato and cinnamon roll flavored pancakes; French toast and Belgian waffles.
