Miners Hall Museum, Evolution of Emergency Services Fire and Police Departments

MHM is proud to announce a special quarterly exhibit dedicated to honoring the history of brave public servants of the police and fire departments of Southeast Kansas.

Mike McLeod, Fire Chief for the City of Arma/Crawford County District #2 Fire Department will serve as host of the exhibit. Mike also works for CDL as their Emergency Manager.

Mike joined the Cranston Fire Department in Rhode Island in 1977 at the age of 19.  He lived at the station and also worked a full-time job. Mike moved to the Midwest in 1981 and worked with security companies in K.C.  He joined the Shawnee Fire Department in Johnson County in 1985 and was with their department until moving to Crawford County in 1992. He joined the City of Arma/Crawford County District #2 in 1993 and has been their chief since 2005.

The following programs will be presented during the exhibit. All programs are held at 2 pm and reservations are recommended (620-347-4220).  Admission is free.

July 9:  “Solving Crimes and Keeping Safe” will be presented by Stephanie Garrison from Pittsburg Police Department.

August 6: “Infamous Trials in Crawford and Cherokee Counties” will be presented by Don Noland, retired judge.

September 10: : Fire Safety” will be presented by Mike McLeod. Mr. McLeod will discuss the history of fire departments in Southeast Kansas and best practices for fire safety today.
