Girard Medical Center Foundation’s May Day Fiesta

Girard Medical Center Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year will be held Saturday, May 7th! There will be tacos, margaritas, our annual silent and live auctions, and much more! It’s guaranteed to be a fun evening so mark your calendar and plan to come join us to support a good cause! This will be an indoor/outdoor event at The Wild Iris. 5th Street Paint and Sip

Who wants to bring in the New Year with this fun snowman?! Other colors will be offered if purple is not your favorite background color.
No experience is needed! This painting would be suitable for persons 14 or older. All supplies are included. Canvas size is 16×20. Step-by-step instruction is provided.
Class will take place upstairs at 5th Street Bar and Grill. They have a great selection of food and drinks, so no outside drinks/food can be brought in. We have a set up to display what I am painting up close and project it onto the tv’s, so no bad seats in the house.
Cost is $25 per painter. Please message Creative Canvas with how many seats you would like. Seats are limited to the first 22 painters that sign up and pay. Venmo and PayPal are accepted. Don’t have either, don’t worry! Just send Creative Canvas a message and she will assist you with how to go about reserving your seat.

Big Buck Down Scoring Party

Forth Seed Company presents the 3rd Annual Big Buck Down Contest. Payouts go to the team with the highest scoring two bucks harvested, and to the individual who harvested the overall biggest buck.
$100 per team
Money covers fee, drinks, food, and shirt.

Come eat breakfast with Santa, 4 time slots are available: 7am, 8am, 9am, 10am. Must call to reserve 620-724-4232
It is a free breakfast that includes 1 pancake, scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, and your choice of coffee, te, water, juice, chocolate or white milk.
There will be hourly raffles, kids giftbags and Santa selfies!

Christmas Festival in Girard

Girard hosts its Christmas Festival on Thursday, December 9 at 6 p.m. An old fashioned Christmas parade will be held and the official lighting of the Wutke Christmas Tree will take place. And of course, Santa!

Be sure to vote for your favorite tree from the Festival of Trees before the parade.

Community members who want to help decorate should be on the square December 1 at 7 p.m.

Candle Pouring

Grab your girlfriends and let Painted Barrels vendor Kim Geier, founder of Creative Cottage Candles, help you pour your own candles! Choose from several seasonal scents – you can even add a pinch of glitter! Pour a few extras to give as gifts! One candle is $15, two candles are $20, each additional candle is $6.50. Gunn Family Publishing Legacy presentation

Holly Swigart will present a program on Monday, November 8th at 6:00pm. The subject will be the Gunn Family Publishing Legacy in Girard, their association with the Little Blue Books and Benjamin Gunn’s phenomenal accomplishments, including visiting every county in the United States.

The program is hosted by the Friends of Historic Girard and will include stories about the Gunn family along with a performance of some of Holly’s original songs inspired by Ben Gunn’s poetry.

The meeting will take place at the County Extension Office located on the corner of Ozark and Buffalo Streets. The museum will be open afterward for any who would like to visit. Refreshments will be served.

Ladies Night Out

Participants will pick up a card from the chamber and map for participating businesses. If you fill your card, you will be entered into a $100 drawing!
Door prizes, specials and incentives at every location.

Sips & Socks in conjunction with Girard Ladies Night Out

Round up your besties and come join us for our 3rd Annual Sips & Socks in conjunction with Girard Chamber’s Ladies Night Out. We’ll have cocktails & snacks for everyone to enjoy!
Don’t forget to bring new socks and/or a gently used coat to donate. The items collected will be donated to Girard schools to make sure kids in our community stay warm this winter. Mark your calendar and come have a fun night out with us and other businesses in the Girard Community!

It will be held at the Girard Square on Saturday, October 30th from 6pm-8pm.

Tommy Maslen Poker Run

Tommy Maslen has served our community and country his entire life – military service, police officer, firefighter, and a member of the Arma American Legion. He has been battling Stage 3 Lung Cancer. It is our honor to dedicate this run to help him and his family during this time.

October 23, 2021. $20 per person. $5 for spaghetti dinner only. All proceeds go to Tommy Maslen and family.

Poker run begins and ends at the Arma American Legion – 512 E Main St, Arma. Stops include the Girard Legion, Cherokee Legion, Columbus Legion, and Pittsburg Legion.

We Grow Corn! Library Series

Girard Public Library is excited to offer this program that has been put together by the Kansas Corn Commission! This is a 6-week program that will cover information all about corn from planting to harvesting. Weekly lesson, activity, and a snack! Prize drawings!

Fall Brawl Demolition Derby

The Fall Girard Ks show is October 9th. Inspection times will be from 9 am to 1 pm. This is for ALL classes! Show starts at 2pm . Inspection line closes at at 12:30! Re tech line closes at 1pm! DO NOT BE LATE!!!

Payouts are the following for ALL CLASSES. We will have a BONESTOCK compact, Limited Weld Compact, and Limited Weld Full Size. These rules are posted on our page, any questions feel free to give us a shout!!!!

$1000 for 1st
$500 for 2nd

If enough cars show up we will run heats. This is the first time that this show has been done for the 2nd time in one year. Car count will effect payouts for following years!! Please come help build this show!!

Mirza Shrine Run For Kids

The 4th Annual Mirza Shriners Poker Run is scheduled for October 9, 2021.

The entry fee is a $20/per buy in. Hospital toys or hygiene products for the kids are appreciated.

Sign-up begins at Mirza Temple, 110 W. 5th St., Pittsburg, at 9 a.m. Bikes are out at 10 a.m. and will be back around 2:30 p.m.

Stops are: Galena Lodge #194, 208 Joplin St., Galena; Altamont Lodge #69, Altamont; Vulcan Lodge #229, 119 S. Main St., Walnut; and, Girard Lodge #93, 125 S. Summit St., Girard, before returning to Pittsburg.

Each Lodge will have a game with a $5 buy in. Winner wins half the pot and the lodge keeps the other half. Winner of the poker run keeps 30%. The other 70% is split between MIRZA and the Wind Wizards.

Band and meal at Mirza after the run with a silent auction.
