Jake Stockton & The Outlaw Souls

Jake Stockton & The Outlaw Souls play a mix of original material where Johnny Cash meets the Rolling Stones or Muddy Waters meets Merle Haggard. With influences from several genres of music, Outlaw Souls have created a style of their own that holds no label.

Snowball Softball Tournament

Fused glass workshop: Pieces of your heart

Bring your Valentine (spouse, child, parent, BFF, date).

In a fun and relaxed atmosphere, you will decorate a pre-cut clear glass heart suncatcher (approximately 6” wide at the fullest) with lots and lots of glass colors! Your heart (glass heart, that is!) will be fired in a glass kiln so that all pieces are fused beautifully together. Two holes will be drilled in the top so that you can hang it from a window to remind you of your love. No experience is necessary. All instruction, tools, glass, and supplies will be provided by the Gallery and/or instructor.

Protective eyewear is required. Regular eyeglasses are sufficient. Please do not wear open-toed shoes when working with glass! Class is limited to 8 participants to allow for social distancing. Face masks are required in the Gallery.

Ceramic Pitchers workshop

Participants will work with a clay slab to create a functional pitcher. All supplies are included along with the two firings necessary to complete the project.

Beginning stained glass workshop

This 15-hour course is for the beginning stained glass art student or for someone who wishes to improve stained glass skills.

You will learn to score, break, groze, grind, copper foil and solder your creation. You will take home a completed stained glass panel (approximately 8” x 10”) that you will be proud to display! An emphasis will be placed on glass considerations for different patterns, glass-cutting techniques and the steps to assemble a Tiffany-style glass panel. (Sample picture is representative of a project. You will have a choice of 6 patterns.)

In a fun and relaxed atmosphere for learning, there will be demos, handouts, skills practice and plenty of time for questions. No experience is necessary. All tools, glass, and supplies will be provided by the Gallery and instructor.

Martin Luther King Jr. candlelight vigil

The Black Student Association at Pittsburg State University, in conjunction with the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., will honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, at the Oval with a candlelight vigil followed by a short program. 

The Oval is located in the heart of the campus in the green space between Russ Hall to the west, Whitesitt Hall to the south, Heckert-Wells Hall to the east, and the Overman Student Center to the north. 

The program will include an opening song, the reading of King’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech, and reflections by two students on how King’s dream is being realized in their lives today.  

The public is invited. Social distancing measures will be in place. 

The observance will be livestreamed on the Black Student Association Facebook page at facebook.com/PSU.Black.Student.Association and will be archived there for later viewing. 

Watercolor Cards workshop

Using watercolors, paint 4 cards (4” x 3”) or 2 cards (5” x 7”), you will paint snow scenes. All materials and supplies are included.

The Amalgamation Necklace workshop

Learn to crochet wire with beads to make jewelry that will be fun to wear and brighten your day! This is a great way to incorporate beads from broken jewelry or leftover projects. All tools and materials are provided.

This 15-hour course is for the beginning stained glass art student or for someone who wishes to improve stained glass skills.

You will learn to score, break, groze, grind, copper foil and solder your creation. You will take home a completed stained glass panel (approximately 8” x 10”) that you will be proud to display! An emphasis will be placed on glass considerations for different patterns, glass-cutting techniques and the steps to assemble a Tiffany-style glass panel. (Sample picture is representative of a project. You will have a choice of 6 patterns.)

In a fun and relaxed atmosphere for learning, there will be demos, handouts, skills practice and plenty of time for questions. No experience is necessary. All tools, glass, and supplies will be provided by the Gallery and instructor.

Protective eyewear is required. Regular eyeglasses are sufficient. Please do not wear open-toed shoes when working with glass! Class is limited to 6 participants to allow for social distancing. Face masks are required in the Gallery.

Online Drawing workshop series

Grab your sketchbook or suitable paper and your favorite drawing pencils! This workshop is meant to be fun while drawing! Improve your drawing skills in this online 6-week workshop. This is a progressive series of drawing that builds upon the previous week’s drawing. However, if you need to miss a week, a quick one-on-one session will catch you up.
