Big Iron Adventure Music Festival at Big Brutus

Officially called the Big Iron Overland Rally, this is a two-day camp out and concert experience at the Big Brutus National Historic Site. It will be held June 10-11, 2022.

This event has many activities for family fun, as well as performances from many great local artists.

Locals know this event as a music festival, but it is specifically a rally for overlanding enthusiasts.

Overlanding is self-reliant adventure travel to remote destinations where the journey is the primary goal. While “expedition” is defined as a journey with a purpose, overlanding sees the journey as the purpose. Typically everything from bicycles to trucks are used, and the principal form of lodging is camping. These journeys often last for extended lengths of time (months to years) and often span international boundaries.

At 16 stories, Big Brutus is the largest remaining electric shovel in the world and is located in the heart of land formerly strip mined that have been returned to nature and are now used for both recreation and preservation.
